Good Times,
Great Flavours

Our menu reads like a coastal journey through Japan — from knife-cut sashimi and hand-pressed nigiri to slow-simmered broths and binchotan-grilled signatures. Plates made for sharing, an evening made to linger.

Pull up a seat at the counter, gather your favourite people, and let the kitchen take the lead.

Our Philosophy

The Art of
Refined Simplicity

Miyabi — meaning elegance, refinement, and the beauty found in imperfection — is the spirit that guides every dish we create. Rooted in centuries of Japanese culinary tradition, we believe that the finest ingredients, prepared with quiet mastery, speak for themselves.

Each season brings a new story to our table. Our chefs source directly from trusted purveyors — from daily-fresh Unawatuna seafood to hand-selected cuts — ensuring every experience is one of pure, uncompromised excellence.

The Atmosphere

Step Into
A World Apart

From the moment you enter Miyabi, the outside world dissolves. Low warm light catches lacquered wood, incense drifts through carefully measured air, and the quiet discipline of our team sets a tone of effortless calm. Every detail — every shadow, every texture — is intentional.

Nestled along the Galle–Matara coastal road, our intimate space seats just 28 guests — ensuring every visit is personal, unhurried, and wholly your own.

Lighting

Candlelight and warm amber pendants create a glow that shifts through the evening — bright enough to see, soft enough to feel intimate.

Sound

A curated low-volume score of contemporary Japanese jazz and acoustic koto — present enough to feel alive, quiet enough to never interrupt.

Décor

Reclaimed cedar and washi paper panels line the walls. Bonsai and single-stem ikebana anchor each corner with quiet life.

Surroundings

Steps from the Indian Ocean, Miyabi carries the cool salt breeze of Unawatuna — an invisible presence that makes dining here singular.

Ma — Space & Silence

Our dining room is designed around the Japanese concept of ma — the beauty of negative space. Each table is placed to offer privacy, stillness, and room for conversation to breathe.

Utsuwa — Vessel as Art

Every piece of tableware at Miyabi is handcrafted by artisans from Kyoto and Arita. We believe the vessel is as important as what it carries — each plate a canvas, each bowl a meditation.

Dō — The Way

Our private omakase counter seats just eight guests per evening. Here you witness the full ceremony of preparation — an unobstructed dialogue between chef and craft, in silence and in awe.

Craftsmanship & Quality

What Makes Every Dish Exceptional

Precision, provenance and passion — in every plate we serve.

Daily-Fresh Seafood

Every morning our kitchen receives premium catch from Unawatuna and southern Sri Lanka fisheries — tuna, prawn, crab and lobster, selected at the dock before dawn.

Master Craftsmen

Our head chef brings over a decade of Japanese culinary study — trained in traditional kaiseki and sushi-dō technique, producing dishes of extraordinary depth and balance.

Seasonal Menus

Our menu is never static. We rotate ingredients and presentation to reflect what is finest each season — honouring the principle of shun, eating with time.

Signature Ingredients

Three things we will not substitute.

Koshihikari Rice

The original Japanese short-grain — plump, faintly sweet and glossy. It is the rice Japan reserves for its finest tables, and it is what sits beneath every piece of our sushi.

Ramen Noodles, Made In-House

Our ramen noodles are made from scratch in our own kitchen — mixed, rested and cut fresh, never bought in. It is the difference you taste in the bite.

Kyoto Organic Matcha

Premium organic matcha, stone-ground in Kyoto — Japan's most celebrated tea region. It colours and flavours our shakes, lattes and desserts.

The restaurant has just opened, so the interior and restrooms are clean. I ordered the special soy sauce ramen, fried chicken, and milk tea, and everything was delicious. The owner is a wonderful person, born in Japan, so Japanese tourists can enjoy their meal with peace of mind. It's one of my favorite restaurants, and I'd love to come back again.

We had a delicious meal here! The beef cutlets, crab, and ramen were all outstanding. The owner is a local who was born and lived in Japan for 20 years, so the service and quality are truly top-notch.
